I gaze out at the world from my tower as the sun shines down in all it’s splendor, swept up in awe at just how big the kingdom really is. All the people below are my subjects yet, at the moment, I feel as powerless as they do.

I am the official Hand to the King, Luke. Appointed by his highness to be a quietly kept, very gay playmate, I thought my position would be nothing but fun times and wild, passionate sex. Yet the title has only brought about pain and misfortune. I may be royalty, but I spend all my days in this tower, this prison, as I stare in envy at the birds that dot the sky. All those who live down there and look up at me, wishing they were a royal themselves, have no idea of the reality of being betrothed to King Charles. I’m sure any number of gay men would give everything they had to swap places with yours truly, but I would not allow them to do so because I would not wish my fate on anyone.

To think that I had such high hopes when I was first appointed by Charles. I thought I was being honored, so thankful that my life would be changing forever. I look back in bitterness at the naive boy I once was.

The ceremony was the happiest day of my life. It was a lavish celebration and people came from all across the known world to pay tribute to my selection as the King’s Hand. Charles was a dashing figure, he looked every inch the man of my dreams and I longed for nothing else than to share my body with him and give him pleasure. I remember that the ceremony seemed to have a good omen as white doves flew overhead and the sun blazed down in its golden glory. We danced and feasted and he promised to take care of me for as long as I served him. I should have seen the signs then, the hints that he saw me as a prize to be admired but kept close and locked away. I’m just another one of his trinkets, like the prizes he’s won from wars fought or the gifts brought by explorers who’ve traveled to the farthest, most exotic realms of the globe.

When I became Hand to the King, I thought I’d be traveling to see those places too, and spread the good name of our kingdom far and wide. I thought I would be able to meet with our subjects, help them with their problems and make them feel like they were a part of a kingdom that cared about the needs of its people.

Instead, I discovered that he is a cruel, mean man who wants nothing more than to start foolhardy wars and drink himself until his stomach is bloated and his beard is wet with foamy suds. Never did I think that love could turn to contempt so quickly, but my passion for him wilted away soon after he put me in this tower.
